I travel for the best part of the year looking for waves to ride, trying to keep that burning flame of surf addiction alight.
The last surf trip i went on was to Indonesia where i was woken in the middle of the night by my first earthquake, it was merely a tremor mind and the bed that i was laying on hardly moved, but i felt it and i was awake in the middle of the night in a strange dark place, my brain was telling me to raise the alarm save the world but i was rigid with fear and all i could do was lay there and think of what i should be doing.
Eventually i came to my senses and walked down to the waters edge to see if the sea was still there, it was but that didn’t help me go back to sleep.

Traveling the world and surfing is such an eye opener for me, I learn so much from watching other people live from day to day, people, culture, waves and long days in the sun and then just like that I’m home again.
Home for me doesn’t change and i love that, its what i know so well, its where i grew up, its where my best mates live and its where i know every nook and cranny of the Cornish coast like it was the back of my hand. Home will always be there but for now there is a whole world to see.

Summer time, we saw this little two day chart and got cracking, swells don’t last for long at this time of the year, the waves didn’t get that big but it was sunny and fun and that for me is a great summer’s day at home. Welcome to episode 3 Summer Lovin.

Johnny Fryer wins The Saltrock Open!
The Saltrock Open 2011 went off in style this bank holiday weekend and ended with crowning a new champion – congratulations Johnny Fryer!
The Saltrock Open stole the show on what is now the busiest weekend of the year in Croyde, and an awesome view of the contest ground gave visitors a real buzz as they rounded Downend Point and came into Croyde.  The waves were better than expected reaching 3 -4 ft on Sunday although it did drop off on Monday, and everyone who came to watch saw numerous great performances from the UKs top surfers.
The Men’s Open was strongly contested as predicted and was rounded off by a great final.  The lead went back and forth throughout the final with Alan Stokes leading most of the way, then Russell Winter came back strongly only to be overtaken by new champion Johnny Fryer on the last wave of the heat
The Women’s Open was won by Australian surfer Amy Stewart, and local Stuart Campbell put in a great performance to win the Pro Junior event.
The King of Watersports awards for the highest scoring waves went to Russell Winter with an 8.67 and to Lucy Campbell with an 8.5, both received on the final day of the contest.
UKPSA Director Dave Reed was stoked with how the event ran.  “Another successful Saltrock contest despite the challenging conditions on the last day. With record entries and great support from Saltrock and Nike 6.0 as well as Marley Mellow Mood and Relentless plus numerous other organisations this well established event will go from strength to strength”
There was a great vibe at the contest with a good strong turnout and loads of spectators despite the grey skies and the rain!  Christian Surfers did a great job keeping everyone well fed and watered with fabulous burgers, steaming teas and coffees and an endless supply of Relentless and Marley’s Mellow Mood!
Well done to everybody who entered – it was a great competition and we’re already looking forward to The Saltrock Open 2012!

We had a great trip lucking into a fairly solid swell on arrival, im stoked to have surfed the only two waves i have never properly scored out in the islands and they really did live up to there reputations.

The best part about Brazil for me was meeting the local people we landed in Rio in the middle of the night really tired and hungry and this taxi driver comes up to us and asks us if we need a place to stay he seemed friendly enough but we had just landed in a strange new place and i turn into the most untrusting person in these circumstance’s assuming that everyone is trying to rip us of or kidnap us ha ha
So i start looking about for some information on hotels near by anyhow after about an hour of trying to sort some kind of place to stay i finally give up as most of the airport is closed and im just broken form all the travel.
We spot the taxi man again and start chatting he says he has a friend that owns a hotel in the city and he will take us there, my minds thinking this is classic kidnapping talk and i continue to interrogate the man
ha ha he must of thought i was a right awkward kook.
Finally we give in, we are so tired and hungry maybe if he does kidnap us he will be a hospitable one and give us something to eat.
So off we go through speeding through the built up over populated city of Rio De Janeiro
i feel like James Bond on some kind of secret mission i don’t know why i have this fixation of Rio De Janeiro and james Bond, when i was a kid i remember seeing a Bond film where 007 is hanging form some cable cars turns out it was the Pan De Azucar Sugar Loaf mountain and the cable cars that climb to its peak.

So here i am James Bonding my way through down town Rio kidnapped with my beautiful bond girl Celine sitting next to me.

We Arrive at are hotel turns out the taxi man wasn’t kidnapping us and the owner of the hotel is rather friendly to.

I look around and its a pretty run down hotel in a rather poor area but the people are overly friendly and genuine to the point were is was kinda erie.

The whole time we spent in Brazil the people were overly friendly and genuine to us and i thought wow i like Brazil.
